Baggage Status at Airlines in United States: More Checked Bag Fees More are the Mishandled Bags
The passengers in United
States face some issues regarding bag checking and bag mishandling regardless
of the increased bad checked fees per customer. According to DOT and TSA statistics,
2012 was the year known for on-time baggage delivery and high performance;
compared with 2012, 2013 was the year in which people had to face problems like
increased bags checked fess, increased numbers of mishandled bags and increase
in checked bags per passenger at the airport ticket counter. Bags checking
ratio was increased to 0.677 in 2013 from 0.668 in 2012; on the other hand,
numbers of mishandled bags were 2.9 per 1,000 customers in 2012 compared to
3.22 per 1,000 customers in 2013. Airlines for America has stated bags
mishandled statistics on domestic flights and according to John Heimlich, chief
economist of Airlines for America, the ratio of leisure travelers in 2013 was
higher as compared to 2012 with large numbers of business travelers; he said
that the checked bags statistics may be more than that reported by A4A.
