Experts Declare Soft Drinks the New Tobacco

A new controversy regarding the use of sugar drinks or soft drinks seems to be appeared; a leading public health doctor says that soft drinks should be labeled with health warnings, these drinks should be made unacceptable due to their contribution to Britain’s obesity plague. Simon Capewell, professor of the University of Liverpool, claimed the food industry has a focus on profit not health; he has declared sugary drinks the new tobacco. A European study shows that fizzy drinks and sugary foods are at 22% risk of developing type 2 diabetes; the recommended quantity of sugar by WHO is 10 teaspoons a day but a survey shows that Briton consumes 12 teaspoons of sugar a day and some adults consume up to 46 teaspoons. Keeping in mind the current health situation, an ultimate try of the experts is to label the drinks with health warnings as the Californian government follows this rule; in California, all soft drinks have been labeled with the links to diabetes, tooth decay and obesity.

Is sugar really a new Tobacco? What do you think?
